⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Seven years after the original carnage, twelve-year-old Damien Thorn is living in Chicago with his wealthy industrialist uncle, Richard, and aunt, Ann. Now enrolled in a prestigious military academy, the "son of a jackal" is finally beginning to understand his dark inheritance. As Damien embraces his powers, anyone—from nosy journalists to suspicious doctors—who dares to uncover his true identity meets a spectacularly grisly end. It’s a slicker, more urban follow-up that swaps the religious dread of the first film for a mounting sense of inevitability and teenage rebellion, Antichrist style. THE PROS This sequel is a win because it manages to keep the momentum going without feeling like a cheap rehash. Jonathan Scott-Taylor is a total belter as the young Damien; he captures that transition from confused schoolboy to cold-blooded sovereign with a sincere, chilling intensity. The "accidental" deaths are a celebratory explosion of creative gore—the elevator scene and the frozen lake sequence are absolute standouts that rival the original’s shock factor. William Holden and Lee Grant provide a solid, grounded anchor to the chaos, making the family’s slow realization of the monster in their house feel genuinely tragic. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because it’s a good movie, but it misses the 9/10 status as it feels a tad more formulaic than the first. The plot follows a bit of a "rinse and repeat" cycle where a character gets suspicious and promptly gets removed by a crow or a piece of machinery. The pacing is a bit of a head-scratcher in the middle, as it spends a lot of time on Thorn Industries' corporate politics, which isn't quite as gripping as the literal end of the world. It’s a sincere effort, but it lacks that lightning-in-a-bottle prestige that made the 1976 original a 10/10 masterpiece. THE VERDICT An 8/10.
