⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Mike is a troubled lad struggling to keep a job and hold onto custody of his younger sister, Abby. Desperate for cash, he takes a gig as a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza—a derelict 80s family fun center that’s been shuttered since a string of kids went missing. It doesn’t take long for him to realize the giant animatronic mascots—Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy—aren't just old robots; they’re possessed and have a nasty habit of turning intruders into permanent residents. Mike has to survive the night while uncovering a dark link between the pizzeria and his own tragic past. THE PROS This is a win for the fans who wanted to see the lore treated with respect. The Jim Henson’s Creature Shop animatronics are absolute belters; they look tactile, heavy, and a sincere bit creepy, which is a celebratory explosion compared to cheap CGI. Matthew Lillard is a standout—any time he’s on screen is epic status because he knows exactly what kind of movie he’s in. It’s a decent watch because it captures that eerie, liminal space vibe of a dead shopping mall or an old arcade perfectly. The "Fort" scene is a punchy, human moment that adds a sincere bit of heart you wouldn't expect from a horror flick. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because it’s a bit of a head-scratcher if you’re looking for proper scares. It’s rated PG-13, so the kills are a bit of a damp squib and mostly happen off-screen, which might leave horror purists feeling a bit cheated. The pacing can feel sluggish in the middle while Mike is constantly dreaming about his brother, making the "horror" feel more like a slow-burn family drama. It misses the 8/10 mark because the plot gets a sincere bit convoluted toward the end, relying on a lot of "if you know the games, you get it" logic that might leave casual viewers confused. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a recommendation for a cozy night in, especially if you’ve spent hours watching lore videos on YouTube. It’s not exactly a vault essential for the genre, but it’s a good movie for a gateway horror experience. Go and watch it for the brilliant robot designs and the Springtrap reveal—it’s a belter for the fanbases. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Real Robots: Most of the shots of the animatronics used real, full-scale puppets. The actors had to be careful on set because the robots were top-heavy and could actually do some damage if they tipped over. • Cameo Hunt: The movie is packed with YouTubers who made the game famous. The waiter in the "Sparky’s" diner scene is actually MatPat (Game Theory), and CoryxKenshin turns up as a very stressed taxi driver. • Lillard’s Legacy: Matthew Lillard’s character has a very specific way of wiping blood off his knife—it’s a direct, punchy nod to his iconic role as Stu Macher in the original *Scream*. THE VIBE Like a dusty arcade that hasn't been cleaned since 1987. It smells like stale pepperoni, old carpet, and engine oil. It makes you want to check your security monitors, stay away from ball pits, and realize that some childhood memories are better left in the dark.
