⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Ethan Hunt and his team face their most existential threat yet: "The Entity," a sentient, rogue AI that can manipulate any digital network and predict the future with terrifying accuracy. To control or destroy it, Ethan needs a two-part cruciform key that has every world power—and a ghost from his past named Gabriel—scrambling to find it first. From a frantic chase through Rome in a tiny yellow Fiat to a jaw-dropping motorcycle jump off a mountain, it’s a high-stakes race where the IMF has to go analogue to survive a digital god. THE PROS This is a total win for maintaining the franchise's incredible momentum. The practical stunts are epic status—the much-hyped motorcycle cliff jump is a celebratory explosion of real-world filmmaking that puts CGI-heavy blockbusters to shame. Hayley Atwell is a total belter as the new character Grace; her chemistry with Tom Cruise brings a punchy, fresh energy to the team. The film is highly recommended because it manages to make a computer program feel like a sincere, looming threat, using tension and pacing to keep you on the edge of your seat for nearly three hours. THE CONS It earns a 9/10 because, while highly recommended, some of the heavy exposition about the AI can feel a bit sluggish and repetitive in the middle act. Gabriel is a decent villain, but following up Henry Cavill and Philip Seymour Hoffman is a head-scratcher of a task that he doesn't quite fully conquer yet. It misses the 10/10 mark simply because it is a "Part One," leaving several major plot threads dangling for the next instalment, but as far as setups go, it’s a masterpiece. THE VERDICT A 9/10. Highly recommended and a vault essential for action junkies. It proves that even after seven films, this franchise still has the best stunts in the business. Go and watch it for the Rome car chase and the train-wreck finale—it’s a belter that sets the stage for an epic conclusion. The director intentionally used Dutch angles and close-up framing in their scenes as a sincere nod to Brian De Palma’s directing style from the first film.• AI Irony: During production, the crew often had to deal with actual technical glitches and the complexities of filming during a global pandemic, making the film's theme of a world-disrupting "Entity" feel a bit too close to home for the cast. THE VIBE Like a high-speed chase where your GPS is trying to kill you. It smells like hot brakes, mountain air, and old parchment. It makes you want to delete your social media, buy a mechanical watch, and realize that in a world of algorithms, the most unpredictable variable is still a human with a mission.
