⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Just when you thought the prophecy was buried with Sam Neill, this 1991 TV movie rebooted the dread for a new generation. Gene and Karen York are a pair of high-powered lawyers who adopt a golden-haired little girl named Delia. Naturally, things go south faster than a falling priest. As Delia grows, her "accidental" influence starts claiming the lives of anyone who smells a rat—including a private investigator and a New Age healer. It turns out the Antichrist isn't a boys-only club, and the Yorks are about to find out that their "bundle of joy" is actually a bundle of biblical destruction. THE PROS The film is a win for its attempt to flip the script by giving us a female Antichrist; it adds a slightly different psychological layer to the "creepy kid" trope. Asia Vieira puts in a sincere effort as Delia, managing to look innocent one second and absolutely vacant the next. There are a couple of creative, 90s-style deaths—including a memorable mishap involving a construction crane—that provide a total belter of a shock for fans of the franchise’s "final destination" style accidents. It’s a celebratory explosion of early 90s fashion and "satanic panic" vibes that will hit a nostalgic chord for horror completionists. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because it’s a massive head-scratcher why this was made as a TV movie rather than a theatrical release.
