⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY A family moves into a sprawling, historic suburban manor, hoping for a fresh start, only to realize they aren't the only ones inhabiting the space. But this isn't your standard ghost story. The entire film is shot from the perspective of the "Presence" itself—an unseen entity moving through the rooms, observing the family’s most private, pained moments. As the daughter (Callina Liang) begins to sense the spirit's attention, the family's internal secrets start to unravel. It’s a gritty, experimental thriller that turns the "haunted house" genre on its head by making the audience the intruder. THE PROS This is an absolute win for anyone bored of generic jump scares. It hits an 8 because Steven Soderbergh’s choice to film from the ghost’s POV is an epic bit of filmmaking that makes every scene feel incredibly voyeuristic and tense. The performances are honest and sincere, especially Callina Liang and Lucy Liu, who have to act as if they are being watched without ever seeing the "observer." It’s a gritty, pained look at family dynamics, using the supernatural element to highlight the isolation of the characters. The pacing is sharp, and the way the camera glides through the house creates a visceral, unsettling energy that lingers long after the credits roll. THE CONS It stays at an 8 because the experimental camera work might be a bit of a "head scratcher" for those wanting a traditional horror movie with a visible monster. It misses a higher mark because the ending takes a sharp turn that might feel a bit abrupt for some, leaving a few pained questions about the entity’s origin unanswered. While the POV gimmick is a win, it does mean we lose some of the intimate close-ups that help build a connection to the human characters, making the experience feel a bit detached at times.
