⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 5/10 THE SUMMARY Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman) is an author who returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot looking for inspiration, only to find the town is being slowly picked off by an ancient vampire. Teaming up with a local ragtag group, he tries to fight back against the bloodsucking infestation before the entire community is turned. It’s a faithful, 1970s-set adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel that leans into old-school horror vibes, but struggles to find its own identity in a world already full of vampire tropes. THE PROS The film looks great; the 1970s aesthetic is spot on and gives the town a dusty, isolated feel that works well for a slow-creeping horror. It hits a 5 because there are a few genuinely creepy sequences—especially the scenes involving the kids—that capture the eerie dread King is famous for. The vampire designs are a win for fans of the original miniseries, opting for a more monstrous, Nosferatu-style look rather than the "sparkly" or human-like versions we usually see. It’s a decent, honest effort at a traditional monster flick that doesn't rely on modern gimmicks. THE CONS It’s a massive struggle to cram a 400-page book into a two-hour movie. The character development feels incredibly rushed, meaning you don't really care when the locals start getting bitten.
