⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Despite John Kramer’s cooling corpse on an autopsy table, the games are far from over. A new trap is triggered, dragging SWAT Commander Rigg into a city-wide gauntlet where he has ninety minutes to save two colleagues. The catch? Rigg’s obsession with "saving everyone" is exactly what Jigsaw is testing. As Rigg rushes through a series of moral tests involving the dregs of society, FBI profilers Strahm and Perez dig into the past to uncover the origins of the man who became Jigsaw and his complicated relationship with his ex-wife, Jill Tuck. THE PROS The film is a win for its ambitious, non-linear storytelling that keeps you guessing until the final seconds. The transitions between scenes—where characters literally walk from one timeline into another through a door—are a celebratory explosion of creative editing. We get a sincere look at John Kramer’s backstory, giving Tobin Bell more to do than just record tapes and making his transition to villainy feel grounded in tragedy. The "Hair Trap" and the "See No Evil" sequence are total belters for fans of the franchise's signature mechanical mayhem. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the timeline is an absolute head-scratcher; it runs concurrently with the previous film, which makes the plot feel a sincere bit convoluted for anyone who isn't a die-hard fan. Rigg isn't quite as compelling a protagonist as Jeff or Matthews, and his constant sprinting from one trap to the next can feel a tad repetitive. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Seamless Transitions: The clever transitions where sets seem to morph into one another were achieved entirely practically. No CGI was used; the crew simply built the sets adjacent to each other and timed the camera movements perfectly with the actors.• Real Wax: For the "Scalp Trap," the production team used a sincere amount of professional-grade dental wax and prosthetics to create the illusion of the mechanism pulling at the hair, making it one of the most cringe-inducing practical effects in the series.• Casting the Ex: Betsy Russell, who plays Jill Tuck, hadn't acted in several years before being cast. She was chosen because the producers felt she brought a sincere, weary grace to the character that contrasted perfectly with John’s clinical madness. THE VIBE Like a frantic race through a hall of mirrors. It smells like autopsy rooms, industrial grease, and old photos. It makes you want to slow down, mind your own business, and realize that you can't save everyone—especially those who don't want to be saved.
