⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu takes the galaxy’s grumpiest space dad and his tiny chaos goblin sidekick and throws them into a bigger, louder adventure that finally feels cinematic again. Din Djarin is dragged into a conflict involving rogue Imperial remnants, bounty hunters, and enough double-crossing to make trusting anybody feel like a medical condition. Meanwhile, Grogu continues alternating between adorable enlightenment and the energy of a toddler who’s accidentally discovered telekinesis. It’s part western, part war film, part father-son road trip… just with more jetpacks and aliens getting launched through walls. THE PROS The chemistry between Pedro Pascal’s Mando and Grogu still completely carries the emotional heart of the story. Disney can sell all the Baby Yoda mugs they want, but the reason people actually care is because the relationship works. There’s genuine warmth underneath all the armour plating and laser fire. The action sequences are miles sharper than most recent Star Wars projects too—less “green screen soup,” more dirty boots, sparks, smoke, and panic. Jon Favreau finally remembers that Star Wars works best when it feels lived-in and slightly knackered rather than polished to death. The practical creature effects are brilliant again, and Ludwig Göransson’s score still sounds like Ennio Morricone got abducted by aliens and came back obsessed with synthesisers. THE CONS It lands at an 8/10 because the film occasionally struggles under the weight of modern Star Wars baggage. There are moments where you can practically feel the franchise trying to set up six other projects at the same time instead of just focusing on this story. Some supporting characters drift in and out mainly so fans can point at the screen like Leonardo DiCaprio memes. It misses the 9/10 mark because despite all the charm and spectacle, it never quite reaches the emotional weight or narrative focus of the very best Star Wars films. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A genuinely entertaining return to what made people fall back in love with Star Wars in the first place—small characters surviving inside a massive galaxy. It’s funny, exciting, surprisingly heartfelt, and thankfully remembers that these stories are supposed to feel adventurous instead of homework. Grogu remains dangerously marketable, Pedro Pascal remains impossible not to root for, and together they still feel like the best thing this franchise has stumbled across in years. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Grogu’s puppetry reportedly became so advanced during production that crew members would instinctively greet him on set every morning like an actual tiny co-worker.• Jon Favreau pushed for more practical sets and miniature work after feeling some recent Star Wars projects had become visually “too clean” and weightless.• Pedro Pascal recorded additional dialogue late into production specifically to strengthen the quieter father-son moments between Din and Grogu rather than adding extra action scenes.• Several alien background creatures were intentionally designed using old Ralph McQuarrie concept art that had never previously made it onto screen.• The sound department secretly layered subtle child-like coos and animal noises into Grogu’s audio design to make audiences emotionally attach to him without consciously realising why.
