⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Four years after the original disaster, Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm is lured back into the chaos when John Hammond reveals there’s a second island—Site B—where the dinos have been living in the wild. Hammond wants a "nature documentary" team to save them, but his slimy nephew has other plans, sending a massive merc squad to capture the beasts for a new park in San Diego. It all goes south when a pair of protective T-Rexes decide that two groups of humans are better than one, leading to a frantic trek through the jungle and a very confused dinosaur loose in the suburbs. THE PROS This is a win for anyone who thought the first movie was a bit too "nice." It’s darker, meaner, and has some of the best practical effects in the series. The trailer-on-the-cliff sequence is epic status—a masterclass in tension that makes your palms sweat every time. Pete Postlethwaite is a total belter as Roland Tembo, the big-game hunter who actually has more honor than the corporate suits. It’s a decent watch because it expands the lore and gives us the "long grass" raptor scene, which is a celebratory explosion of pure cinematic dread. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because it’s a bit of a head-scratcher compared to the first one’s tight script. Ian Malcolm goes from being a witty rockstar to a grumpy dad, which makes him feel a sincere bit less fun. Some of the characters—looking at you, Nick Van Owen—do things so stupid you almost want the dinosaurs to win. The pacing can feel sluggish in the middle, and the "gymnastics vs raptor" scene is a bit of a joke. It misses the 8/10 mark because the San Diego finale, while funny, feels like a completely different movie that was tacked on at the last minute. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a recommendation if you want more carnage and less "science talk." It’s a vault essential for the T-Rex pair alone, even if it lacks the wonder of the original. Go and watch it for the cliffhanger and the raptors in the village—it’s a belter of a creature feature. If you look closely, there’s a poster for a fictional movie called 'King Lear' starring Arnold Schwarzenegger—a cheeky nod to the action star’s range.• Invisible Cameo: Director Steven Spielberg actually has a cameo in the reflection of the TV screen at the end of the movie, sitting on a sofa eating popcorn while watching the news report about the dinosaur.• The "Lost" Explanation: Fans often wonder how the crew on the cargo ship were killed if the T-Rex was locked in the hold. A deleted scene apparently involved raptors sneaking onto the ship, but it was cut, leaving one of the biggest head-scratchers in movie history.
