⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Twin brothers Hal and Bill (Theo James) stumble upon their father’s old, cymbal-bashing toy monkey in the attic, only to realize that every time the monkey claps its cymbals, someone close to them dies. After a string of gritty, horrific accidents, the brothers throw the toy away and drift apart. Years later, when the pained deaths start happening again, the twins must reunite to find a way to destroy the cursed object before it wipes out everyone they love. It’s a stylish, black-comedy horror based on the Stephen King short story that turns a childhood fear into a visceral nightmare. THE PROS This is an absolute win for fans of "mean-spirited" horror with a sense of humor. It hits a 7 because director Osgood Perkins brings that signature, dread-filled atmosphere he’s known for, making a silly toy feel genuinely ominous. Theo James does a great job playing both brothers, making their fractured relationship feel honest and sincere. The death sequences are an absolute banger—creative, gory, and often leaning into a dark irony that keeps the tone unique. It’s a gritty, well-paced thriller that manages to take a simple "cursed object" premise and make it feel fresh and unpredictable. THE CONS It stays at a 7 because the shift between the bleak horror and the dark comedy can occasionally be a bit of a "head scratcher," leaving the audience unsure whether to laugh or hide behind their hands. It misses a higher mark because some of the supporting characters feel like they only exist to be part of the monkey's body count, lacking the depth to make their deaths truly impactful.
