    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 ​ THE SUMMARY Released earlier this year in January 2026, The Rip is the gritty, star-studded crime thriller we’ve been waiting for. It stars real-life best friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as two Miami narcotics detectives who stumble upon millions of dollars in untraceable cash during a routine cartel bust. Instead of turning it in, they decide to keep it—only to realize that "no honor among thieves" applies to cops, too. As the cartel closes in and Internal Affairs starts sniffing around, the partners begin to suspect each other of a double-cross. It’s a tense, paranoid ride that asks the ultimate question: how much is your soul worth in a city that’s already bought and sold? ​ THE PROS ​The chemistry is a "Guaranteed Banger." Damon and Affleck haven't shared this much screen time since the 90s, and they fall back into that rhythm effortlessly—except this time, it’s infused with a dark, bitter edge. The direction by David Ayer (returning to his End of Watch roots) is "The Business," capturing a neon-soaked, sweaty Miami that feels like a character of its own. It’s a Masterpiece of tension; the back-to-back framing throughout the film visually reinforces the fact that while they’re partners, they can’t see what the other is doing behind their back. The action is grounded and brutal, trading CGI explosions for the kind of "street-level" intensity that makes every gunshot feel like a punch to the gut. ​ THE CONS It’s a 9/10 because the ending—while poetic—is a "head-scratcher" that will definitely spark arguments at the pub. Some viewers might find the moral ambiguity a bit too bleak, as there are truly no "heroes" to root for by the time the credits roll.
