    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Asia Reaves (Zazie Beetz) is an ex-con just looking to stay on the straight and narrow while searching for her estranged sister, Maria. She lands what seems like a simple live-in housekeeping gig at "The Virgil," a suspiciously luxurious New York high-rise. It doesn't take long for the "Welcome Home" vibes to sour; Asia discovers the building is actually a vertical fortress for a Satanic cult of the ultra-wealthy, led by the eccentric superintendent Lilith (Patricia Arquette). When the residents decide Asia is the perfect sacrifice for their demonic deity, they realize they’ve picked the wrong maid. Asia isn't just good with a mop—she’s a brawler who knows how to handle herself, turning the high-rise into a nine-story "splatstick" battleground. THE PROS Zazie Beetz is a winner here, carrying the film with a punchy, magnetic focus that makes you believe she could actually take on a whole building of lunatics. Director Kirill Sokolov brings the same "hyper-kinetic" energy from his cult hit 'Why Don't You Just Die!', making the action feel visceral and inventive. It’s a 7/10 because the practical effects are epic status—the team used real puppets, prosthetics, and even a possessed talking pig’s head (voiced by James Remar) to keep the horror feeling tactile and raw. The "mattress fight" between Asia and Sharon (Heather Graham) is a quality standout, blending slow-motion beauty with total chaos. Patricia Arquette is also a standout, chewing the scenery with a wild Irish accent that is sincere in its commitment, even if it’s a bit over-the-top. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the plot is a bit of a damp squib in terms of originality, feeling very similar to 'Ready or Not' or 'The Hunt'. The pacing in the middle chapters can feel slightly sluggish as it tries to map the building’s floors to the circles of Dante’s Inferno, which is a clever idea that doesn't always land with punchy execution. It misses an 8/10 mark because some of the "immortal" logic of the cult members feels quality-deficient—they are meant to be hard to kill, but the rules seem to shift whenever the plot needs a quick exit. At 94 minutes, it’s a fast ride, but some of the secondary characters like Tom Felton’s Kevin feel a bit one-dimensional and are gone before they can really make an impact. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and highly recommended for fans of "splatstick" and "eat the rich" horror. It’s a winner for its practical gore and Beetz’s powerhouse performance. He and his wife found a literal hole behind a kitchen cabinet that connected to another unit, leading them to joke about being trapped in a building run by a bloodthirsty cult. • Fireproof Fashion: For the climactic scene where Asia uses a flaming fire axe, Zazie Beetz had to wear a custom-made, fireproof wig. Sokolov insisted on using real fire for the sequence to keep the lighting and heat feeling sincere, rather than relying on quality-deficient CGI flames. • Voice from the Grave: The voice of the possessed Pig's Head was provided by veteran actor James Remar. He recorded his lines in a single session, reportedly being told by Sokolov to sound like "a demonic version of a tired bureaucrat." THE VIBE Like a blood-soaked game of "The Floor is Lava." It smells like floor wax, expensive perfume, and old copper.
