⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Anti-mutant colonel William Stryker launches a shadow war against Xavier’s school, kidnapping the students and seizing Cerebro to wipe out every mutant on Earth. After a direct assault on the mansion, the X-Men are forced into an uneasy alliance with Magneto and Mystique to infiltrate Stryker’s secret base under Alkali Lake. While Peter and his team fight for survival, Logan is forced to face the man who stripped him of his memories and laced his skeleton with adamantium. It’s a race against a global genocide that ends in a heartbreaking sacrifice at the Niagara Falls dam. THE PROS The opening White House sequence with Nightcrawler is epic status; it’s one of the best-directed action scenes in cinema history. Brian Cox as Stryker is a total win, playing a grounded, terrifying villain without needing any superpowers. The film is quality because it manages to give every member of the massive cast a moment to shine, from Iceman’s "coming out" scene to Pyro’s fiery rebellion. It’s a 9/10 because it takes everything from the first movie and makes it punchier, darker, and more emotional. The chemistry between the cast is a winner, especially the simmering tension between Logan and Jean Grey. THE CONS It misses a 10/10 mark because some of the logic regarding Cerebro’s range and how it works feels a bit sluggish if you think too hard. Cyclops is sidelined for almost the entire movie, which feels like a bit of a damp squib for fans of the team leader. While the effects were top-tier for 2003, some of the CGI during the jet chase is starting to look a bit quality-deficient compared to modern standards. THE VERDICT A 9/10. Epic status and arguably the best X-Men movie ever made. It’s a winner for the Nightcrawler scenes and the shocking finale. Go and watch it to see how a sequel should be done—it’s pure quality. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Contact Trouble: Alan Cumming’s yellow contact lenses were so uncomfortable he could only wear them for short bursts, and his Nightcrawler makeup took nearly four hours to apply every single morning, involving silicone prosthetics and individual hand-painted tattoos.• Dr. Pepper Secret: The "blue fluid" in Magneto’s plastic prison was actually a mixture of water and blue food coloring. However, the monitors in the security room once again feature the "sushi recipe" digital code—the VFX crew’s signature easter egg that has appeared in nearly every Marvel film since 1999.• Hidden Cameos: If you look closely at the computer files Mystique steals from Stryker’s office, you can see names like "Maximoff," "Gamba," and "Cassidy"—direct nods to Scarlet Witch, Gambit, and Banshee years before they appeared on screen. THE VIBE Like a cold, steel corridor in a secret bunker. It smells like ozone, old paper, and forest rain.
