    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Dr. Bruce Banner (Neal McDonough) is a man on the run, living in the shadow of a laboratory accident that turns him into a massive, green engine of destruction whenever he loses his cool. Chased across the country by General "Thunderbolt" Ross and the US military, Bruce searches for a cure while fighting off other gamma-powered freaks like the Leader and the Abomination. This 90s series doesn't pull its punches, leaning into the tragedy of Bruce’s life and the heavy burden of being a monster that everyone fears. THE PROS This show is a highlight for the character because it captures the dark, lonely atmosphere of the original comics better than almost any other version. It hits a 7 because the voice acting is top-tier; having Lou Ferrigno—the original live-action Hulk—return to provide the grunts and roars for the animated version is an honest touch of class. The stories are surprisingly deep, focusing on Bruce’s mental struggle and his pained relationship with Betty Ross. It’s a smart move that the show includes other versions of the character, like the Grey Hulk, which adds some nice variety to the usual "smash everything" formula. The cameos from other Marvel heroes like Ghost Rider and the Fantastic Four make the world feel big and connected. THE CONS It stays at a 7 because the show’s tone is a bit of a head-scratcher; the first season is very dark and serious, but the second season was forced to lighten up and add She-Hulk to make it more "kid-friendly," which feels a bit jarring. It misses a higher mark because the animation quality can be a bit hit-or-miss, with some scenes looking epic and others looking a little flat and rushed. The pacing can feel like a bit of a slog when it leans too hard into the "monster of the week" drama, and some of the villains feel a bit one-dimensional. While it's a good show, it doesn't quite have the same consistent punch as the Spider-Man or X-Men cartoons from the same era. THE VERDICT 7/10. A solid, moody, and honest look at Marvel’s most famous monster. It’s a good result for Hulk fans and a fair shout for anyone who wants a superhero show with a bit more grit and tragedy. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • To keep the connection to the classic 70s show, the producers brought back Lou Ferrigno to voice the Hulk, making him the only actor to play the character in both live-action and animation for a full series.• The show's second season was officially renamed 'The Incredible Hulk and She-Hulk' because the network thought the first season was too dark and wanted to bring in more female viewers by giving Jennifer Walters a starring role.• Mark Hamill, famous for playing Luke Skywalker and the Joker, shows up in this series too, providing the voice for the Leader’s hunchbacked servant, the Gargoyle. THE VIBE Like a thunderstorm over a desert. It smells of ozone, old lab equipment, and the metallic tang of a gamma-irradiated tank.
