    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY If *Abraham Lincoln* is the introspective sequel, this is the blockbuster origin story. *Washington* (2020) is a three-part miniseries from the History Channel that "chips away the marble" to find the flawed, ambitious, and legendary man beneath the wig. Narrated by Jeff Daniels and produced by Doris Kearns Goodwin, it blends cinematic dramatizations with expert analysis to track George Washington from an inexperienced young officer in the British military to the reluctant revolutionary who forged a nation. By April 23, 2026, it remains the definitive companion piece to its Lincoln counterpart in the 900+ archive, often revisited for its "War for Independence" action sequences. THE PROS Nicholas Rowe is a total win; he brings a sincere, commanding physicality to Washington, perfectly capturing the transition from the "Loyal Subject" of Episode 1 to the battle-hardened "Rebel Commander" of Episode 2. Jeff Daniels’ narration is the business—his voice adds a layer of modern gravitas that makes the 18th-century politics feel urgent. The show’s biggest win is its refusal to treat Washington as a saint; it leans into his early military failures and his intense personal ambition, making his eventual sacrifice for the common cause feel much more earned. The battle scenes, particularly the Siege of Yorktown, are a sincere highlight, offering a gritty, "boots-on-the-ground" look at the Revolution. THE CONS It is an 8/10 because, as some 2026 critics have noted, the dramatic George looks a bit more like a "younger Nicholas Rowe" than the George we see on the dollar bill, which can be a minor head-scratcher for visual purists. It misses the 9/10 mark because the three-episode format forces the show to sprint through his presidency in the final act, making it feel a bit like a Languid Burn that suddenly shifts into warp speed. It is total garbage that the documentary style can sometimes interrupt the flow of the battle scenes just as the tension is peaking. For some, the talking-head segments (while insightful) can occasionally pull you out of the immersive 1776 atmosphere. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It is a genuine, high-quality, and deeply informative docudrama that successfully humanizes the man at the heart of the American story. I was slightly gutted that we didn't get a fourth episode dedicated solely to the "First President" years, but as a "Liberty-or-Death" epic, it’s the business. It is total garbage if you want a dry, academic lecture, but as a cinematic deep-dive into the man King George III called "the greatest man in the world," it’s a vault essential. By April 2026, it is the show that every "Hamilton" fan watches to see what Alexander Hamilton was actually like in a tent with the General.
