Rick and Morty follows a cynical, super-scientist grandfather and his fretful grandson as they traverse the multiverse, leaving a trail of collapsed civilizations and psychological trauma in their wake. By today, April 24, 2026, the series has successfully navigated its most turbulent era; Season 8 wrapped its run in July 2025, and as of last month, we officially have a premiere date for Season 9: May 24, 2026.

    THE PROS

    The replacement of Justin Roiland with Ian Cardoni (Rick) and Harry Belden (Morty) has been a 100% authentic success—by the time Season 8 aired in 2025, the new voices had become so indistinguishable from the originals that the controversy felt like a relic of the past. The writing remains a gripping blend of high-concept physics and low-brow bathroom humor, with Season 8 highlights like “Summer of All Fears” and “The Rick, The Mort & The Ugly” proving the “post-Roiland” writers’ room still has plenty of gas in the tank. It’s the “Go To” for meta-commentary on the state of sci-fi, managing to be both a regal parody of the genre and its most visceral modern entry.
