⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Ryan Reynolds returns as the foul-mouthed mercenary, this time dealing with a tragic loss that sends him spiraling into a mid-life crisis. His path crosses with Russell, a young, angry mutant being hunted by Cable (Josh Brolin)—a grizzled soldier from the future with a bionic arm and a serious attitude problem. To save the kid, Wade forms "X-Force," a ragtag team of mutants that includes the incredibly lucky Domino. It’s bigger, bloodier, and even more meta than the first, leaning heavily into the absurdity of superhero sequels while trying to find a bit of heart under all the carnage. THE PROS Josh Brolin as Cable is a total winner; he provides the perfect "straight man" to Deadpool’s chaotic energy, and their chemistry is high-quality throughout. Zazie Beetz nearly steals the show as Domino; her "luck" powers are handled with high-quality visual wit that makes for some of the best action sequences in the film. It earns an 8/10 because the comedy is relentless and sincere, with some of the post-credits scenes being absolutely legendary in terms of self-deprecating humor. The action is a step up from the first, feeling more expansive and "epic" thanks to a bigger budget, and the addition of a massive CGI Juggernaut is a total banger for long-time comic fans. THE CONS It lands an 8/10 because the first act feels a bit sluggish, relying on a "fridging" trope that feels a touch quality-deficient and lazy for a franchise that usually prides itself on subverting clichés. The middle part, particularly the prison sequence, drags a bit and makes the pacing feel a touch uneven compared to the tight first movie. It misses a higher mark because some of the jokes start to feel a bit repetitive, and the sheer volume of cameos can occasionally feel like a head-scratcher that distracts from the actual plot. It’s a great shout, but it lacks that lightning-in-a-bottle freshness that made the original a 9. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A high-quality sequel that is a winner for anyone who loved the first, even if it doesn't quite hit that "epic status" peak. It’s an honest, hilarious banger that doubles down on everything that worked before, delivering legendary laughs and solid grit. While it’s a bit messy in places, it’s still a sincere effort that stands tall as one of the better superhero sequels out there. Definitely a quality choice for a rowdy movie night. He was only on set for about two hours to film his split-second reveal. • Invisible Efforts: To keep the X-Force's fate a secret, the production filmed several high-quality "fake" scenes for the trailers that made it look like the entire team would have a much bigger, more traditional role in the film. • Suit Up: The Cable costume was so intricate and heavy that Josh Brolin required a specialized cooling suit underneath to keep from overheating during the high-intensity fight scenes in the Vancouver heat.
