⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 2/10 THE SUMMARY Set in the waning years of the Roman Empire, this ultra-low-budget historical drama follows a Roman officer who finds himself caught between his duty to a crumbling empire and his growing conscience. As he navigates a world of political betrayal and brutal skirmishes, he must decide what he truly stands for. Unfortunately, what sounds like a high-stakes epic on paper translates to a film that looks like it was shot during a weekend at a local heritage site with a few friends in Spirit Halloween costumes. THE PROS There isn't much of a winner here, but the lead performance by Joseph J. Grantham is a sincere effort. He tries to bring a legendary weight to the role, even when he’s delivering dialogue that feels a bit quality-deficient. The film is an honest look at what happens when passion outstrips a budget, and for that, you have to give the crew a shout for actually finishing a feature-length project. The natural lighting in some of the forest scenes is high-quality enough to occasionally make you forget you're watching a micro-budget indie. THE CONS It lands a 2/10 because the technical execution is a total letdown. The cinematography feels amateurish, with framing and focus that often scream "home movie" rather than "historical epic." The action is a massive slow-roller; the fight choreography is quality-deficient, lacking any real impact, speed, or tension—it’s mostly people clumsily swinging props at each other in a field.
