⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 4/10 THE SUMMARY Inspired by horrific true events, this Lifetime thriller follows Sara (Stefanie Scott), a vibrant teenager who is looking forward to her 18th birthday so she can finally escape her controlling father, Don (Judd Nelson). Her dreams are shattered when Don lures her into the basement and locks her in a soundproof bunker he’s spent years building. What follows is a grim, decades-long ordeal where Sara is kept prisoner, subjected to unimaginable abuse, and forced to raise a family in the dark. It’s a heavy, uncomfortable watch that attempts to dramatize the psychological toll of a real-life nightmare. THE PROS Stefanie Scott is a total winner here, delivering a sincere and high-quality performance that captures the slow erosion of hope over twenty years. She manages to make Sara’s resilience feel honest and moving, even when the script is a bit of a slow-roller.
