She learns she’s the latest recipient of a fatal curse: a shapeshifting entity that will relentlessly walk toward her. If it catches her, she dies; the only way to stall it is to pass the curse to someone else. It’s an absolute quality indie horror that swaps jump scares for a legendary sense of lingering dread, set against the crumbling, nostalgic backdrop of suburban Detroit. THE PROS This earns an 8/10 because it’s an absolute winner in atmosphere. The cinematography is high-quality, using wide shots to make you scan the background of every frame for a slow-moving figure, which is a total banger for building tension. Maika Monroe gives a sincere and grounded performance that makes the legendary premise feel honest.
