⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Fresh off the press (released April 2024), this Netflix documentary feels like the ultimate victory lap for Sir David Attenborough. Nearly 50 years after his iconic 1979 encounter where a baby gorilla tried to wrestle him on camera, the 99-year-old legend returns (via his study and some incredible new footage) to trace the legacy of that specific troop. It follows the life of Pablo, the baby who famously sat on him, as he grew into a legendary silverback, and checks in on his descendants today. It’s part "family tree" and part "Game of Thrones" in the Rwandan jungle, proving that while humans age, the drama of the wild is eternal. THE PROS It is pure, concentrated emotional payoff. Seeing the 1979 grainy film transitioned into 2024 high-definition footage of the same lineage is a "Guaranteed Banger" moment. Attenborough’s voice is as soothing as a warm blanket, but he doesn't shy away from the harsh reality—there’s a brutal struggle for supremacy among the modern alpha males that makes reality TV look polite. The photography is arguably the best ever captured of primates; you can see every gray hair and every thought behind their eyes. It’s a story of hope that proves conservation actually works.
