While technically premiering yesterday, April 22, 2026, *Orangutan* is the big "today" watch for everyone settling in for a Disneynature fix. Narrated by the ever-charismatic Josh Gad, this immersive documentary takes us into the high-canopy world of Borneo and Sumatra. We follow Indah, an inquisitive adolescent orangutan, as she navigates the complex social hierarchies of her jungle home and prepares to venture out on her own for the first time. By April 23, 2026, it is officially the "feel-good" hit of Earth Month, continuing the tradition of stunning cinematography and animal "personalities" that Disneynature has mastered over the last two decades. THE PROS The visuals are a total win; the 8K drone work through the Southeast Asian rainforest is the business, making the 900+ archive look practically prehistoric. Josh Gad is a sincere highlight—he brings a lighthearted, "Olaf-adjacent" warmth to the narration that makes the educational beats go down easy for families. The show’s biggest win is the "Indah and Bimo" dynamic; the footage of the siblings playing in the canopy is a sincere masterclass in wildlife photography. For some, the heavy reliance on personification (giving the animals human-like thoughts) might be a head-scratcher if you're looking for a dry, Attenborough-style lecture. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It is a genuine, breathtakingly beautiful, and heartwarming addition to the Disneynature library. I was slightly gutted when the 90-minute runtime ended, as the world Mark Linfield and Vanessa Berlowitz created is so vibrant you just want to stay there. It is total garbage if you want a gritty, unsentimental look at the palm oil crisis, but as a celebratory "love letter" to one of our closest relatives, it’s a vault essential.
