Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARYA dark, brutal, and masterfully stripped-back deconstruction of the Wild West that completely demolishes the classic myth of the heroic cowboy. The story follows William Munny, a notorious, cold-blooded killer who has spent years rotting away as a broke pig farmer to raise his children after giving up the gun. Hard up for cash, he reluctantly agrees to pick up his old revolver one last time to help a young bounty hunter track down two rogue cowboys who horribly disfigured a woman in a lawless town, bringing him face-to-face with a sadistic local sheriff. THE PROSClint Eastwood delivers a towering, gravel-voiced performance as Munny, showing a terrifyingly fragile old man who is fighting like mad to keep his inner monster locked away. Gene Hackman is absolutely phenomenal as the brutal Sheriff Little Bill, creating a deeply unsettling villain who thinks he is the good guy while inflicting horrific violence. The script is razor-sharp, completely stripping away the Hollywood glamour of gunfights to show the grim, messy, and pathetic reality of killing another human being. THE CONSThe film’s slow, deliberate pace might feel a touch too sleepy early on for anyone expecting a traditional, action-heavy western filled with flashy shootouts.
